I am Daniel Bilsborough. House of Robots is mine. It reviews robots, tests them and prices them for the Australian market, and it sells none of them.

The photography

I shoot for a living, stills and video, and that decides most of how this site works. Manufacturer press renders are the norm in this category, and a render tells you what a robot is supposed to look like standing still in a studio. The pictures here are of the actual unit, taken by me, in the room it was tested in, and there is video wherever video says it better.

Some of what a robot does only exists in motion. A machine crossing a wet tiled floor, or turning around a table it was not expecting, is a thing to film rather than describe.

The part I keep coming back to

There is a moment with a good robot where it tracks you rather than trailing you. It is the same jump as picking up a 120Hz phone after years on a 60Hz one: nothing on the box changed, and the whole thing feels different in your hand. The good ones feel like they get you.

That never turns up in a specification, and it is genuinely hard to photograph, but it can be described honestly and it is a large part of whether anyone keeps using the thing after month two. It is going in every review here.

Independence

House of Robots does not import, resell, rent or install robots, and holds no distribution agreement with any manufacturer. If I ever start doing any of that it will be a separate company under a separate name, and it will be disclosed on this site.

Where a link on this site earns a commission it will be labelled as one. No manufacturer or reseller gets to see a review before it is published, and nobody pays for coverage.
