Privacy policy

This site runs analytics so we can see which pages get read. That is the whole of it. There is no account to create, no newsletter, no comments and no contact form, so there is nothing here that asks you for your name or your email address.

Who this is

What gets collected

When you load a page, the analytics tools below record the sort of thing analytics tools record: which page you looked at, roughly where in the world you are, what browser and device you used, how you arrived, and how long you stayed. None of that identifies you by name, and we never try to work out who you are from it.

The site does not ask for or store your name, email address, phone number or payment details, because nothing on it collects them.

The tools

Google Analytics 4

Counts page views and sessions and groups them into reports. Run by Google. It sets cookies to tell one visit apart from the next and truncates IP addresses rather than storing them in full.

Google Tag Manager

The container the other two tags load through. Run by Google. It does not collect anything about you on its own.

Microsoft Clarity

Records how pages are used: scroll depth, clicks, and anonymised session replays that show a cursor moving over the layout. Run by Microsoft. It is used to find things that are broken or hard to read. There are no forms or logins on this site for it to capture.

All three are third parties with their own privacy terms, and data they collect can be processed outside Australia, including in the United States. Google and Microsoft each publish what they do with it.

Cookies

The cookies on this site come from the analytics tools above. They are not needed for anything to work, so blocking them costs you nothing. Every browser can block or clear cookies for a single site, and Google publishes a browser add-on that opts you out of Google Analytics everywhere at once.

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, the analytics tools handle it under their own settings.

What is not happening

Nothing on this site is sold or handed to advertisers, data brokers or anyone else. There is no advertising network, no remarketing pixel and no email list. If any of that changes, this page changes first and the date at the top changes with it.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) you can ask what personal information an organisation holds about you and ask for it to be corrected. Email the address above and you will get an answer. In practice the honest answer today is that this site holds no information that identifies you.

Changes

When this policy is updated, the date at the top of the page is updated with it.
