What a smart home costs in Melbourne
The base build is one system running the house, the custom app, the design, the install and support after. Ranges, not quotes.
| House | Base build |
|---|---|
| 3 bedrooms | $5,000 to $9,000 |
| 4 bedrooms | $7,000 to $13,000 |
| 5 bedrooms and up | $9,500 to $18,000 |
Not in these numbers: electrical work that needs a licensed electrician, which is quoted separately by the electrician; buying replacement gear where what you own has no way into a single system; building work, patching and painting; network cabling in a house that has none.
How a Melbourne install works
- 1
You get in touch
Tell us about the house and what bugs you about it now.
- 2
Daniel comes to the house
He lives in Melbourne, so the first meeting is in your house, not on a call. No travel charge.
- 3
Design and a quote
A plan room by room, and a price before anything is bought.
- 4
The install
Daniel installs it. His own licensed electrician does anything hardwired.
- 5
Handover and support
The app goes on every phone in the house, Daniel shows you how it works, and support carries on after.
Melbourne houses we work on
- Victorian and Edwardian terraces
- Solid brick walls with no cavity, so most of it goes wireless and cables follow the roof and floor.
- Brick veneer, interwar and postwar
- A wall cavity and a ceiling space you can move in. The easiest houses to wire.
- New builds and estates
- Often part wired by the builder. The job is joining what is there into one system.
Questions people ask
- Can it use what I already have?
- Usually. Existing ducted and split systems are brought into the one system, and blinds you already own can be motorised. Gear with no way to connect is the exception, and you are told before it is replaced.
- Does it stop working when the internet drops?
- No. It runs inside the house first, so switches, schedules and heating keep working without the internet.
- Do I need a new house or a rewire?
- No. Most Melbourne jobs are existing houses. What is already wired gets used, and wireless covers the rest.
- How big a house do you take on?
- Three bedrooms and up. Below that the design costs about the same and the result is not worth the money.
